The Corbières: red, white and rosé A.O.C. wines
Wine production in this area was already highly developed at the time of Augustus Caesar, then gradually declined. It was only from the 17th century on, that Corbières wines were once again widely appreciated and exported to countries as far away as Russia.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, Corbières wine growers have been consciously striving for high quality standards. |
Production Area: From Carcassonne to the salt marshes of Leucate on the Mediterranean coast.
Climate: The most dominant influence is the Mediterranean climate.
Grape Varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault for red and rosé wines. Grenache blanc, Bouboulenc, Maccabeu, Marsanne, and Roussanne for white wines.
Wine Appreciation: The young wines have blackcurrant or blackberry flavours. As they mature, they reveal notes of spice, pepper, with hints of the garrigue and thyme. The reds for laying down have distinct flavours of old leather, coffee and cocoa. |
