OUR SOMMELIER
Biography of Sommelier, Georges Gracia
Born in the Carcassonne area, Georges is a graduate of the prestigious oenology school of Tain l'Hermitage, where his thesis on the Armagnac was very well received.
After graduating, Georges spent a few years enlarging his knowledge of wines from Burgundy, the Rhône Valley and Provence with Chef Alan Chapel before joining Moët & Chandon Champagnes. He later became Michel Guérard's sommelier at the 3-star restaurant, Les Près d'Eugénie. |
The Hôtel de la Cité owes the excellence of its wine cellar to Georges Gracia, who has significantly added to this collection of some 10,000 bottles, with samples from vineyards from every French region. An exceptional selection of 1,000 vintages was specially blended for the hotel by regional wine-makers, such as a Chardonnay of the Caves du Sieur d'Arques in Limoux, a Cuvée Réservée from the Château La Voulte Gasparets in the Corbières, or the Cuvée Nobilis from the Château Oupia from the Minervois vineyards.
A recognised expert on Languedoc-Roussillon wines, Georges' skills and knowledge earned him the award, Le Prix d'Excellence, for the best wine-list in the French Southwest in 1995. Georges also contributes articles to professional journals. |
